Fatal Attraction is scarier the 2nd time around, when you know what is going to happen.

Sometimes it is the journey, not the destination. If you give away the ending, you are making it all about the journey -- and if you can do that effectively, you can have masterpiece on your hands.

But it ain't easy to do.Signor Ferrarinoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30413383.post-1152856015121740312006-07-14T01:46:00.000-04:002006-07-14T01:46:00.000-04:00I'm not sure what else to add...I know I'm with Mi...I'm not sure what else to add...I know I'm with Mickey Lee that as a rule I tend to dislike flashbacks and certainly resisted them in my writing for ever so long --- and then ended up trying them to decent effect in two of the last three scripts I wrote.

And I can't for the life of me remember why I broke down (thats certainly how I would imagine I felt) and chose to show some scenes in/as flashbacks. There's probably a writing lesson in there for myself if I could just remember...lolwcdixonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06511429457006302795noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30413383.post-1152837007187394982006-07-13T20:30:00.000-04:002006-07-13T20:30:00.000-04:00I agree that flashbacks do very well in films that...I agree that flashbacks do very well in films that are "psychological" in nature, i.e. "Sybil" and "Citizen Kane", because they are answering the "WHY". But still, for the most part, I hate them. hahaha

The flashback narrative I'm not a fan of, for the reasons I stated in the previous post having to do with Point of View and subjectivity. It worked in "Usual Suspects" because we come to find out the whole movie was ALL Verbal's POV. And a made-up POV at that!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
