For the record, he's twitchy in the interview because he's always very nervous in interviews and such. One shouldn't draw speculative conclusions such as "Dude, you can tell he's cracked out in the interviews!" :P
He seemed like a good guy. His career started because he was a teen showboy for studios (much like Freddie King Jr.), but his talent became clear once he took his career by the horns, trained to become a greater actor, and began to find his own roles.
His work as The Joker really is a showstopper, and is what would be any actor's proof of talent, ability, and dedication.
All I know is, ever since I watched him light a cigarette with a bunsen burner in Ten Things I Hate About You I have wanted to have lots of sex with that man.
And now I never will.
I am sad, but at least he left us with one more awesome performance.
