A Screenwriting Blog-A-Thon!

I would like to announce (what may be) the world's first:

SCREENWRITING BLOG-A-THON!

THE TOPIC: Your Favorite Screenplay & Why

WHEN: March 30 - April 2

Simply post on your blog (the weekend of March 30 - April 2) an article about your favorite screenplay & why you admire it so. (This must be a script that has been turned into a film.)

I will publish on March 29 a blog-a-thon post (like this one), which I will continually update that weekend with links to ALL of the articles. After you post your article, email me or include in your article a link to my blog-a-thon post. I'll keep a watchful eye on the trackbacks and be sure to include everyone who participates.

To all of my TriggerStreet friends who don't have blogs - if you'd like to contribute, you are very welcome to do so by
emailing me your article, and I will post it right here.

By the way, if you're having trouble deciding, SimplyScripts has a wealth of free, available, online screenplays. Hope that helps.

And finally, if you guys could announce this on your blogs so word gets out, I would greatly appreciate it.

WOO HOO! I'm excited.

Great idea! Though I think I'll struggle to narrow it down to just one script...

Thanks so much!

We thought we'd start with a simple topic first.

And I agree! It'll be tough for me, too. But if a lot of people participate, it'll be less confusing if everyone talks about ONE script, ya know?

I have so many favorite scripts, I may pick one that I'm sure no one else will talk about.

I've got my script picked out and two versions downloaded to compare. This is a movie I keep coming back to for good examples of sub-text, structure, character depth, etc.

I think I know what that is, too!

Hmmmmm...I'm pretty sure I'll participate in this...I've already narrowed it down to two of my favorite relatively obscure films made within the last 10-15 years.

This means I actually have to read a script? Oof.

Guillermo - Yeah, narrowing it down is tough. It's also tough, I think, because a lot of newbie screenwriters out there haven't read a lot of screenplays. They have movies they love. So to talk about a script and explain why you love is unusual, ya know?

Carl - I'm sure you've read one or two before, haven't ya? Hehehe...

I'm assuming we're not to be narcissistic and that we're to pick a script somebody else has written, right?

And should there be a limit on length on this essay as well?

Mystery Man said...

Are you kidding? Limit a writer on length? NEVER!

Hehehe...

"I'm sure you've read one or two before, haven't ya?"

All kidding aside, I have a pretty serious reading disorder. I go through phases, usually of a 2-3 months out of a year when I can read. The rest of the time, I struggle through magazine articles.

A few months ago I tried to read the first Harry Potter book. Three days later, when I had sat down with it about a half-dozen times for an hour at a clip but still wasn't through chapter one.... I put it back on the shelf.

On TS I've only reviewed a couple of scripts since October. I'm in a don't bother phase, but I will give it a go.

Are you serious? I would've NEVER guessed. That's absolutely amazing.

So I should really appreciate the fact that you actually read "Gigolo," shouldn't I?

Wow.

I'm speechless.

I really don't want to put you to any trouble. I know you're busy. We all are.

Wow.

I'm in. I'll go for it.

I read a 25-page act today to start warming myself up.

No worries.
